I bought this unit after reading why it was at the top of the list for outdoor grills under $500. The reviewer made the point that well made products are far superior to ones which sacrifice quality materials for bells and whistles. This unit has a robust cast metal lid and box - not some flimsy sheet metal like some of those in the stores. The V-shaped grilling plates are also solid cast metal and weigh in at close to 15 lbs total for the pair - as opposed to the inadequate little rods on those other ones. It heats up to well over 600� in 15 to 20 minutes. I have got excellent results with steak, fish, vegetables, and fruit. The booklet that it comes with is an absolute gem. The family pays tribute to their father who loved nothing more than to cook for his family outdoors. The booklet is filled with tons of hints and tips and fabulous recipes. The steak marinade on page 41 will make your steaks taste world-class. And by following the grilling guide on page 40 you get that perfect steakhouse diamond pattern! Its a winner all round! A few things: My kitchen is close by so I never use the side burner for anything, therefore it doesn't bother me that the side burner won't light by the ignitor anymore and must be manually lit. And the hooks to hang the grilling tools on could be deeper. But the two trays in front for holding spices and whatever are generously adequate with two purpose made holders at each end, away from the heat, for the cold ones!
